Looking Ahead: The future of the global mining industry
Looking Ahead is based on KPMG's fourth annual Mining Executive Forum, which was held in Vancouver, BC on September 18th, and 19th, 2008.
Current economic and business conditions have greatly affected the mining industry, both locally and globally. Falling prices for base metals and shares have caused many mining executives to become more conservative; resulting in hiring freezes, cutbacks and project suspensions. Yet, as difficult as the current economic conditions are it is recognized but many industry leaders that the biggest risk is to do nothing.
This publication examines a variety of issues facing the global mining industry today. These issues include:
- M&A in the mining industry: what lies ahead?
- Operating in new and developing markets: Will short-term economics dictate the agenda?
- Sustainability in the global mining industry: Recent progress is impressive but there are miles to go.
