The State of the Telecoms Industry in Asia Pacific
This paper looks at developments in telecoms across Asia Pacific, where preparations for the rollout of next-generation networks are having implications for the strategies of both operators and vendors.
A few key findings include:
- The carrier business has reached the point of a mid-life crisis, defined as a moment in its development when past visions and roadmaps no longer seem appropriate or attuned to the times, leaving the industry in search of a new direction.
- Vendors are facing challenges arising from technological changes overtaking the industry and new entrants from the IT world, resulting in vendor diversification into services and even consolidation
- Many telecoms companies are facing dual challenges from both the maturing of the industry and the increasingly tech-savvy consumer base.
