C-Suite Survey: 2009 in Review and the Challenges of 2010 and Beyond
December 2009
The quarterly C-Suite Survey of over 158 chief executive officers, chief financial officers, and chief operating officers was conducted between November and December 2009 by the Gandalf Group. The survey was published by The Globe and Mail and Business News Network, with sponsorship by KPMG.
Summary of Findings
The overly positive economic optimism felt over the past 6 months has now leveled off for Canadian executives.
- 95 percent are expecting a slow recovery from the recession and that the growth rates over the next 2 years will be lower than the average of the last decade.
Expectations for Canadian executives’ own companies are positive regarding growth over the next year, with over half experiencing increased value in their companies in 2009.
- One-third expect to experience strong, but slow, corporate growth during the next 12 months. This predication is up slightly from last quarter and doubled from two quarters ago.
- Even with this most positive attitude, the access to credit and financing remains a concern for almost 25 percent of Canadian executives.
